RisCura targets first infrastructure benchmark in March 2027

Infrastructure investments can look very different from one another, making meaningful comparisons difficult for retirement funds considering greater allocations to the sector.

At the recent Institute of Retirement Funds Africa conference in Cape Town, RisCura Head of Unlisted Investments, Heleen Goussard discussed the challenges of assessing infrastructure investments and RisCura’s work to develop an infrastructure benchmark. Her presentation was featured in a recent Citywire South Africa article.

The proposed benchmark, with its first figure targeted for the period ending 31 March 2027, is examining listed infrastructure bonds and unlisted infrastructure debt to build a credible performance history against which investors can assess infrastructure investments.

Goussard highlighted that infrastructure spans different asset classes and risk profiles. RisCura therefore assesses investments across factors including the financial instrument, industry, stage of development, liquidity and market risk.

For trustees and institutional investors, understanding these underlying characteristics alongside comparable performance information can support more informed allocation decisions and stronger governance.
