Cultivating Growth: Investing for Impact in Africa

With over two decades of experience, Heleen heads RisCura’s alternative investment team and leads the firm’s unlisted investment programme. Under her leadership, RisCura’s independent valuations offering has expanded into a broader alternative investment service spanning private equity, infrastructure and private debt. She is an expert in alternative investments, with experience in direct deal evaluation, manager research, industry relationships, and involvement in the African Women Impact Fund (AWIF) and impact investing initiatives. Her insights are regularly sought by industry bodies, media outlets and conference audiences for comment on key industry developments and RisCura’s research. Before joining RisCura, she was a corporate finance partner at PKF Inc. Heleen is a CA(SA), CFA charterholder, and holds a master’s degree in finance from UCT, with a focus on valuation. 

​Boitumelo supports senior consultants in client engagement and delivery by performing a range of required investment and client-service-related queries for clients, which assist them in making well-informed investment decisions. She has five years of experience in the financial services industry, including consulting and asset management. Her passions lie in financial literacy, responsible investing and transformation in the South African financial industry.

Brooke conducts research and provides reports on ESG, Impact, Infrastructure and BEE for RisCura’s sustainability team, ensuring that clients receive comprehensive, updated and accurate reports. Her areas of expertise range from the energy sector, BEE/transformation, and international trade. She regularly engages with stakeholders on issues around ESG, impact and infrastructure reporting and has been a speaker for various industry platforms. Brooke also writes a regular sustainability newsletter which has over 4000 subscribers.  She has completed her CFA ESG Certificate and the UCT GSB’s course on Impact Investing in Africa. 

With over two decades of investment industry experience, Monika heads up the investment advisory business of RisCura, namely RisCura Solutions (Pty) Ltd. She joined RisCura as a senior consultant in 2014 and since then has consulted to a range of institutional clients, including retirement funds, medical schemes and insurers. She is also involved in responsible investment initiatives and chairs the group’s Responsible Investment Committee. Monika has experience in portfolio management, manager research, investment operations, research, client servicing, investment consulting, and team management, among others. Prior to joining RisCura, Monika’s roles included Senior Portfolio Manager and Investment Platform Operations Manager at Momentum Manager of Managers, Research Specialist at Accenture, and various investment-related roles at Advantage Asset Managers and Momentum Multi-Managers. 

​As Head of Consulting, Kabir provides support and management to RisCura’s team of Associate Investment Consultants and Investment Consultants, as well as overseeing the team’s operations and processes. He also serves as an Investment Consultant to several of RisCura’s clients, which entails having an overview of clients’ investment strategies, specific investment portfolios, structures and requirements, and ensuring that solutions are tailored to their needs. Prior to joining RisCura in 2016, Kabir gained broad experience in the retirement industry through roles in investment analysis, Section 37C Claims Administration, as well as serving as the Principal Officer of the Security Employees National Provident Fund (SENPF). This experience has given him key insight into retirement funds in South Africa, both from an investment and regulatory perspective.

Dumisile Mokoena is an ESG and Responsible Investment Professional with over 13 years of experience spanning sustainability, ESG Integration, Impact Investing and Stewardship across corporate and investment environments. 

She currently provides strategic oversight of Sentinel Retirement Fund’s ESG, Responsible Investing and Stewardship Function, engaging asset managers to strengthen ESG Integration, accountability and sustainable investment practices. She also serves on the Advisory Board of Africa Capitalworks, an Africa-focused investment house. 

Passionate about Africa and the role of capital in driving sustainable development, her work focuses on the intersection of investment, sustainability and real-world impact.
